10K giveaway from First Credit Union & Insurance

Established as the First Credit Union in BC in 1939, our organization has made it a priority to contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve. First Credit Union & Insurance is a proud sponsor of many groups, organizations and events, and our donations and sponsorships program set us apart from any other financial institution. With credit union branches in Powell River, Texada Island & Bowen Island, as well as First Insurance offices in Powell River, Comox Valley & Campbell River, we are very proud of the diverse and dynamic organization we have become. Each year, the organization sets aside a portion of its profits to reinvest into the communities in which we operate, in the form of dividends to members, sponsorships and donations. This year, with a portion of those funds, the organization’s Board of Directors wanted to do something different. The 10K Giveaway is our way of empowering members of the community to make the decision as to how $40,000 of donation funding will be awarded. One of the founding principles of the credit union model is democratic member ownership, and we’re taking this principle and applying it to the community at large – giving our residents the opportunity to voice their choice! First Credit Union & Insurance is very excited to see how the 10K Giveaway will impact deserving community groups in each of the communities of the Comox Valley, Campbell River, Bowen Island and Powell River, all decided by popular vote!

In addition to the funds being awarded in each of the above communities, the island community of Texada has also been included; however, a critical need was indentified very early on in the process of awarding funds.

Therefore we are very pleased to announce that $4300 has been donated to the Texada Community Society and $3500 has been donated to the Texada Food Bank. We appreciate the important work that these organizations are doing for Texada Island youth and the community and we are very proud to be able to support their efforts!
